Job Type:            Part-time, 25-30 hours per week

Pay:                     $25-$28/hour, depending on experience level

About Fresh Start Furniture Bank:

Fresh Start Furniture Bank is a volunteer-driven organization that provides gently used, free furniture and home goods to economically disadvantaged families and individuals. This year alone, we will furnish 700+ households with 35,000 items, most of which were donated by the public. 


Position Summary:

Fresh Start is seeking an experienced volunteer and administrative coordinator who is highly energetic, an active problem solver, has management experience, and has a strong attention to detail. This person will be responsible for managing our amazing 100-person volunteer crew, who put in over 16,000 hours annually, as well as handling administrative duties such as database management, bank deposits, and agency and client communication. This role is crucial for managing a large volunteer group and ensuring a high level of client and donor satisfaction. 



Key Responsibilities: 


Volunteer Management: 

Prepare, monitor, and ensure volunteer staffing when Fresh Start holds shifts on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays

Handle all volunteer communications, including but not limited to: shift reminders, requests for coverage, and special events

Strategically recruit new volunteers through online boards, community engagement, and open houses

Train new volunteers on different jobs to help ensure adequate coverage

Hold regular training refreshers for new and existing volunteers

Work with community groups who come to volunteer

Participate in community events

Address and resolve any concerns raised by volunteers in coordination with the Executive Director and Operations Manager

Create a volunteer appreciation program to maintain retention


Distribution Center Management: 

Work with the Operations Manager and Executive Director to handle opening/closing duties

Review client appointment details before each shift and follow up with case workers as needed

Share any relevant client information with Operations Manager and volunteers on shift


Call Center (a highly automated system for handling incoming calls): 

Handle agency and client inquiries in a timely and professional manner

Approve new agency partners

Answer agency questions regarding protocols

Answer client questions regarding protocols, appointments, etc.

Handle all general information inquiries and direct them to the appropriate group


Administrative Duties:

Enter all fiscal donation information into online database

Deposit checks weekly

Ensure donors receive donation acknowledgements in a timely manner

Order office supplies

Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director



Qualifications: 


Minimum Qualifications:

Proven track record of managing a large, diverse group of volunteers and/or employees

Administrative experience in a nonprofit or business setting

Ability to prioritize multiple requests in a fast-paced environment

Ability to manage budgets


Skills and Abilities:

Well-organized, detail-oriented, and self-starting

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

Strong PC skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel, and Google Workspace

Strong problem-solving skills

Strong data entry skills

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

Ability to manage fluid volunteer teams effectively

Reliable internet connection for occasional remote work


Work Location and Hours:

On-site work, approximately 8:30 am to 1:30 pm Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, plus two Saturdays per month. Additional hours may be added based on organizational needs, with prior notice

Remote hours as needed

Paid hourly

Must have a valid Driver's License

Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of Hudson, MA
